HERMES – Heterogeneity in Household Renovation: Simulations

The objective of the HERMES project is to analyze two flaws in the classical analysis of the energy renovation decision, flaws that have been identified by recent academic literature as the main barriers to the development of energy efficiency.

Insufficient “price signal” as a trigger for energy retrofits

The development of energy renovation has a double environmental and social benefit for the public authorities, reducing both energy demand (and therefore the associated CO2 emissions) and fuel poverty. However, it is clear that despite financial aid and the increase in energy prices, the number of major renovations undertaken by households remains low.

Energy efficiency, household heterogeneity, energy performance preferences

HERMES is articulated in three axes:
  • Study of the impact of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) on household decisions
  • Understanding the heterogeneity of household preferences for housing energy performance
  • Use of a micro-simulation model to analyze the potential of differentiated public policies on the renovation dynamic

University of Paris Dauphine LEDA CGEMP, Climate Economics Chair, EDF R&D EFESE
  • Knowledge in theoretical, empirical and technico-economic modeling
  • Expertise in the energy transition in buildings and the different forms of valorization
  • Micro-simulation, knowledge of energy efficiency and fuel poverty issues
Assuming the main responsibility of a research axis, interacting with the others :
  • Creation of databases. Informational effects of the EPC
  • Heterogeneity of the actors and models of fate
  • Impact of energy efficiency policies on fuel poverty
