Following mathematics studies, E.Somanathan obtained a PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1995. After twenty years of academic career in the United States, E.Somanathan is now Professor of Economics at the Indian Statistical Institute, and Program Director at the Center for research on Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE).
